Each year, about 25 employees in the Asia Pacific division participate in ASSA ABLOY’s Management Development Program (MDP), which aims to fine-tune leadership skills.
Participants are selected based on three criteria: exceeding expectations on performance; demonstrating potential and aspiration for further development; and their potential for filling management positions in the organization.
Holly Li, HR director at ASSA ABLOY Asia Pacific, says the program has been refined over time. “In the early stage of MDP, the program aimed to provide a platform for internal sharing, learning and site visiting, so that participants could adopt each other’s best practices and create internal synergies,” she says.
“Since 2010, we have updated the program with more leadership-development training elements, and the training is designed around APAC’s new leadership-competency model: Envision, Execute, Empower and Collaborate.
We’ve also put learning activities into the program, where participants are asked to identify new business initiatives or improvement opportunities, propose an action plan and execute it, and then report on the results in a sort of graduation paper.”
