ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH recently launched the ASSA ABLOY security door closer – the world’s first door closer with an integrated escape-door locking system. The slide-arm door closer features an escape-door strike and a latch-bolt lock and can be retrofitted to fire doors. ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH has applied for a patent for this innovative product.
The ASSA ABLOY security door closer meets all of the latest safety requirements in Germany, including those published recently by the German Institute of Building Technology (DIBT).
“In view of these new requirements, the market urgently needs a solution that can be retrofitted to fire-protection doors,” explains Gerhard Gutmann, Product Manager at ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik. Noting that building operators often need to retrofit fire-protection doors with an escape-route locking system, he adds: “We offer an elegant solution in the form of the security door closer.”
The ASSA ABLOY product can be retrofitted using the existing holes already drilled for the door closer that is being replaced – providing the original door closer was fitted in compliance with DIN EN 1154, supplementary sheet 1, which regulates the fitting of door closers with specified hole patterns – meaning that no further drilling, milling, filing or grinding is required.
An extended mounting plate is fitted and the slide arm is also extended to attach escape-door strike model 332. The latch-bolt lock is mounted to the extended mounting plate, and not to the door leaf. By using adapter plates, the ASSA ABLOY security door closer can also be fitted using the existing fastening holes in slide arms supplied by other manufacturers.
